Hello Peeps
My letter for the Day is ‘J’
Jazz Dance is a old dance form, originated from African American dance. Basically Jazz dance includes tap dance and jitterbug both along with Jazz music. Then choreographers introduced steps from ballet and contemporary dance which is known as ‘Modern Jazz Dance’.
How to perform this dance?
Jazz dancers should have strong background in ballet. The main thing is rhythm and improvisation. A dancer can showcase his/her individual style and originality. This dance form consists of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns.
Instruments:
Swig is an orchestral influenced Europian music, consists of piano, bass and drums, a brass section with trumpets and trombones, a wind section with saxophones and clarinet, and occasionally, string instruments, such as the violin and guitar, might also be found.
Swing Jazz or simply Swing, is a style of jazz music.
Costumes:
In Jazz dance, baggy clothes arev discouraged because the dancer’s boly lines should be visible. The jazz or dance pants are much preferred by dancers. Jazz pant is generally boot-cut or flared styles because tight bottoms restrict ankle movements. Jazz dancers wear tank tops, t-shirts or leotards.
A Jazz dancer should practice isolation and Suspension. Isolation is moving one part of the body while rest of the body parts remains still. Suspension involves moving through positions instead of stopping and balancing in them.
Jazz Shoes:
Jazz shoes are almost similar like ballet shoes and these are black or tan in color. Some dancers prefer Jazz sneakers which have split-sole and a hardened toe area for brief rises onto pointe. Another option is Jazz boot. This boot is ideal for the dancers with weak arches.
Signature movement of jazz dancing is the “jazz walk.” Jazz walks can be performed in many different styles. Another popular jazz move is the “contraction.” A contraction is accomplished by contracting the torso, with the back curved outward and the pelvis pulled forward.
