When you wear a diamond ring every day, it can start to lose its sparkle as it gets covered in dirt and grease, but there are things that you can do to prevent this. There are a lot of websites offering advice on cleaning diamond rings, some of which can damage them, so you must be careful.
Below you will find out how to clean your ring and keep it clean, maintaining its shine and sparkle for many years to come.
Clean Your Ring Regularly
It is better to keep your precious antique diamond rings clean monthly, rather than let the dirt and grime build-up and do it every six months or a year. The process to clean your ring can be quite easy, and there is no special equipment required. Below are the steps that you can take to help keep your diamond ring sparkling like the day you first put it on your finger, and doing it once a week is quick and easy.
Step One
The first step is to get a small bowl that is deep enough to be able to cover the ring and fill this with hot water. You will want the water as hot as your fingers can stand, as this will help to remove the dirt and grime easier.
Step Two
You will then need to add some cleaning detergent to the water and ensure that it is mixed thoroughly. Dishwashing soap is an excellent choice, and you do not need too much detergent, just make sure that you do not use anything too strong.
Step Three
Once the water and soap are mixed, you can then place your diamond ring in the solution, and let this soak. You will want to allow your diamond ring to soak for about 10 minutes, which should be plenty of time to loosen the grease and dirt on your jewellery.
Step Four
Now that the grease and dirt have been loosened, you will then want to remove them from the ring. The best way is by using a soft bristle brush, such as a toothbrush, rubbing the surface of the ring and diamond thoroughly.
Step Five
You will also want to have another bowl of warm to hot water to rinse your diamond ring and ensure that both the dirt and the soap are completely removed. You should, by now be able to see a noticeable difference in the cleanness of the ring.
Step Six
The final step in the process of cleaning your diamond ring is to dry it and you can either air dry it, or you can use a soft cloth. Rub the soft cloth over the surface of the ring, and this will bring the shine back, making it look like new once more.
If after cleaning your ring, there is still a lack of shine to it, you may wish to consider taking it to a professional jeweller who can clean your ring and bring back the shine. If your ring is an antique and it has not been taken care of during its lifetime, the surface of the diamond may be permanently damaged, and a jeweller will be able to confirm this for you.
